Google search tools are here!!
Finally a much needed improvement for internet searching -- the ability to make sense of the thousands or millions of search results.
(not to sound big headed, but I've been complaining about the quality of search result refinements for YEARS! - do you think Google heard me?)
With the Google Search Tool at your fingertips there's a slightly better than average chance that you might actually LOVE SEARCH AGAIN!
Do you remember many years ago when Google first arrived on the scene how exciting it was to see the efficiency and speed of finding "stuff" on the internet?
Now that same feeling is back. In fact, I might just spend more time doing Google Searches today than playing games on Facebook - shocking!
So I can now refine my search results using a date (past hour, day, week, month, year, custom range), sort the results by relevance or by date (fresh is best!! hint to all you webmasters out there to stay on top of your content management plans).
And what's this -- ??
Further refinements for Image rich sites, Dictionary, Reading Level (Basic, Medium and Advanced filters) and Verbatim (just another way of telling Google to only include results that exactly match the search term.
So the Researcher part of me is VERY EXCITED ... however, the webmaster part of me is not so gung-ho.
How can I
possibly optimize my web site content for keyword searches AND the
multiple new variables offered by the Search Tools?
How will these refinements help me understand my visitor traffic and motivation if Google doesn't share the data? And I know they're collecting data -- see the "Cookies Help Us" blurb in the image above?
What about Reading Level? How is that being scored or measured?
Time to do some
research and see what are the implications for webmasters ...
