Freelancer Websites

Need Help with your Website?  Freelancer websites are plentiful.  In fact, there are probably TOO MANY choices in the market.

Freelancer Websites

Reliability, Trust & Communication are Key Elements

Making a decision to use a freelancer on your website project can be extremely difficult.

You might feel it makes the most economic sense -- you can find cheap labour from around the world.

But you don't have the luxury of being able to "pop in" and visit your temporary staff in person to make sure they're being productive.

And if you do leverage resources from a country that does not share your own native language, communication challenges can become a critical issue.

Freelancers - Good for Business?

When you speak with people who rave about using freelancer websites, it's hard to ignore all of the positives:

You control the hiring process - Take as little or as much time as you need to select the perfect candidate.

You are not an employer - No tax issues, employee benefits, tribunals or unions to worry about.

Clear budget - Responses or bids for your project are clearly presented.  If they're not to your liking, you can simply eliminate the bid/bidder from selection.

Feedback - Freelancers are rated by their project managers on prior work assignments.  You can clearly see who are the top performers.

But in the back of your mind, it's difficult to wholeheartedly embrace the freelancer staffing model as the potential risks or issues may outweigh the benefits:

Remote Workforce - How can you be sure your freelancer(s) are working on your project if they are not "in the office"?

Language Barriers -Finding the perfect fit for your website project might result in you selecting a person who does not share your native language.

Legitimate Portfolios - It might be impressive to see a collection of screenshots of webpages and links to websites in a portfolio, but is it clear what ROLE the freelancer played on the referenced project?

Freelancer Websites - Review

My freelancer websites reviews are written from the perspective of a "buyer of services" rather than as a "seller of services".  I focused on Web Design and Development skills when I searched for relevant resources since this article is directed at my core readership (people interested in creating and managing a business website).
