Best Websites News, January 2013 -- What Happened to 2012?
January 01, 2013
Hello !

Happy New Year?

Isn't it great to have a "fresh start"?

It's odd to me that such a big deal is made of New Year's Resolutions. In fact, the grand nature of many resolutions may actually be bad news -- e.g. quit smoking, quit drinking, lose weight, be happier etc. How awful is it when you fail to meet these lofty goals?

And why only once a year? After all, there's no universal law or unwritten rule that says "resolutions are reserved for New Years".

Why not make a few promises throughout the year -- "periodic pledges"? Focused and attainable promises to make minor changes that add up to a "new you" by the time New Years rolls around again.

Change is difficult and change is also inevitabe. It can't be helped. Every new experience, mistake made, lesson learned shapes who we are and what we think.

The nature of New Years Resolutions or Periodic Pledges can also apply to your website. After all, successfu websites evolve over time.

Let me know what you hope to achieve with your website this year. I'll dedicate some of my time, skills and experience to focus on YOUR NEEDS ...

30 Day Challenge

So this is the first time I have ever done this ... created a PUBLIC 30 Day Challenge. Scoot on over to my Facebook page and check out the details there. Let's just say that I need to PROVE some things to myself ... the challenge includes a bit of "mythbusting", some goal setting and measuring results. Note: You need to be a FAN of my page before you can view the Challenge.

Enhancing Facebook Pages

Despite the fact I find Facebook to be quite annoying (too many people expose their personal lives on Facebook), I do acknowledge that Facebook is here to stay. So, I have a Facebook Page for the Best Websites and a handful of fans - mostly friends and family. But that's okay ... for now.

If you don't have a Facebook page and need help setting one up for your business, feel free to contact me. I'll send you a FREE guide for setting up and managing a Facebook Page.

I recently created a nifty Search Feature for my Facebook page. Now my fans can search for content from my website AND my Facebook posts in one convenient location -- Facebook. Check it out and let me know what you think. I'll be happy to get you setup with the same feature ... The Best Websites Facebook Page

Google Plunge

Google rules the internet ... What did I just say?

Well it does seem that Google has quite the monopoly on MANY web fronts ... Google Search Engines (yes, there are many of them), Video (Youtube), Local Advertising (Google Maps), Keyword Research (Keyword Tool), Web analytics (Google Analytics) Web Advertising (Adwords and Adsense), FREE email (gmail), extended Web Safe Fonts (Google Fonts) and "competition" for Facebook (Google Plus).

Last year, I've devoted hundreds of hours learning about and using various Google products. This year I will plunge deeper within the Google family and close some knowledge gaps - specifically Youtube and Google Plus. Stay tuned for updates ...

In the meantime you can read about some of my experiences with Google using the links below:
